School & University Greening and Outreach Program
The School and University Greening and Outreach Program delivers bilingual (English and Spanish) environmental education focused on urban forestry, water conservation, climate resilience, and related environmental issues. Programming serves K–12 schools, pre-K–12 after-school programs, youth organizations, colleges, universities, and community groups throughout Miami-Dade County.
Educational offerings are delivered through classroom presentations, hands-on science activities, interactive workshops, community events, and environmental festivals. CITIZENS is available to provide customized presentations and programming for schools, homeowner associations, community groups, residents, and other interested organizations.
This program is central to CITIZENS’ mission of cultivating an ethic of citizen science among Miami-Dade’s youth and emerging professionals. Community-driven science initiatives represent a powerful and underutilized resource for expanding environmental management, mitigation, and public education efforts. Through structured Community Science Workshops (CSWs), participants engage in interactive learning experiences that address coastal risk reduction related to climate change, native species conservation, and urban canopy development—particularly within underserved communities.
