GoNative!
Go Native for South FloridaThe plants you choose for your yard play an important role in South Florida’s environment. They influence water use, biodiversity, and the availability of habitat for wildlife. As residential and commercial development continues to replace natural lands, the landscapes around our homes become increasingly important refuges for migrating birds, native butterflies, and other wildlife, while also helping protect our groundwater supply.
Native plants—those that existed in South Florida prior to European colonization—have evolved alongside local wildlife for thousands of years. This long relationship has created a delicate balance in which plants and animals depend on one another for survival. By planting native species, we can help restore that balance and support healthier ecosystems in our own communities.
