Opportunities:

Sept. 10th:    GO NATIVE! Nursery

Sept. 11th:    Bayside Foliage

Sept. 18th:    Arcola Lakes

Oct. 8th:        GO NATIVE! Nursery

 

Volunteers will learn about native plants in the South Florida environment, while raking, re-potting, weeding and staking plants in our

GO NATIVE! nursery, at Virginia Key and at the Bungalow.

All activities take place between

8:30 am -11:30 am

CITIZENS Hosts The Rotary Club
of Coral Gables at The Bungalow


Donors Lewis Aqüí and Deena Bell Llewellyn

On July 30, more than 40 Rotarians from The Rotary Club of Coral Gables met at The CITIZENS Bungalow to celebrate their Fifth Friday Celebration. Gables Rotarians who are also CITIZENS Board Members, Debbie Swain, Deena Bell Llewellyn, Ramon Ferrer were in attendance. Gables Rotary Past President, Kelly A. Sastre, CITIZENS' CEO welcomed her friends from the club. Rotarians and their guests enjoyed delicious food from Catering by Lovables, (whose owner, Elizabeth Silverman is also a Rotarian) and received tours of the house from CITIZENS' staff.

Robert Jimenez, Esq. and Danny Milian, Esq. celebrated the opening of their law firm at a reception that included friends, family, and associates to honor the attorneys. Also in attendance were Stephanie Cornejo and Amanda Rivera, foundation members of CITIZENS’ YPBranchingOut young professionals group, of which Robert and Danny are foundation members.

 

CITIZENS Presentation at New Rotary Club at ZOO Miami

Amanda Rivera, M.S.W., and Stephanie Cornejo, B.A., Program’s Assistant/Co-Director, Internship Program, were invited to speak about CITIZENS before the Board of Directors of the new ZOO Miami Rotary Club. Amanda is serving as an AmeriCorps Volunteer in Service to America (VISTA)–City of Miami Partnership

at CITIZENS for the 2010-2011 year.

 

BELL + AQUI Design CITIZENS' Demonstration Native Landscape

Deena Bell Llewellyn, ASLA, President of BELL + AQUI Landscape Architecture and CITIZENS Board Member, designed this plan for the Demonstration Native Landscape at the CITIZENS Bungalow. The project will include all native and Florida-friendly plants and will be completed through the help of CITIZENS' volunteers as an on-going and interactive experience where they will learn how to create a native landscape in their own homes. Work on the project broke ground in May. CITIZENS thanks Deena and BELL + AQUI for their beautiful design.

 

CITIZENS Director Hosts a Free Teachers' Workshop

Gloria Antia, B.S., Director of Urban Greening and Community Forestry Program, instructed more than 18 Miami-Dade County Public School science teachers on how to incorporate trees into their curriculum using hands-on activities. The workshop took place at The City of Miami Crandon Park Marjory Stoneman Douglas Nature Center. The event was arranged by Environmental Education Providers of Miami, which CITIZENS is a member.

CITIZENS has moved into the Historic Hubbard-Alvarez Bungalow located in East Little Havana. The bungalow has been fully restored and in a few weeks will feature a demonstration of beautiful native plants.
