Volunteer Weekend at
ReVive: the Virginia Key Restoration Project

Enterprise Volunteer Team with Florida Christian School Students

Wells Fargo Volunteer Team
Volunteers from Enterprise Holdings, Florida Christian School, and Wells Fargo ventured to Virginia Key over the weekend to remove invasive plants, work in the nursery, and remove debris from the coastal dunes. Volunteers cleared mounds of the invasive Scaevola teccada and Brazilian pepper. To see more pictures of the event, visit our facebook page.
Volunteers Celebrate NeighborWoods Month
with CITIZENS

Volunteers transformed CITIZENS' Bungalow in celebration of NieghborWoods Month in October. Board members, community leaders, and volunteers spruced up the landscaping at our headquarters in Little Havana, adding some much needed green infrastructure to the community. This greening project is part of the Native Landscape Demonstration Garden, a public garden for the Miami community to learn how to create beautiful Florida-friendly yards. Take a look at the volunteers in action!

Service Learning with CITIZENS
Volunteering and Learning about our Unique South Florida Ecosystems
Did you know that Miami-Dade County’s urban canopy stands at a dismal 14%, with some areas around the County only hosting 1 to 3% coverage? The national average for urban canopies stands at 33%, with 45% coverage being optimal. CITIZENS, along with its many partners, including volunteers like you, is expanding our urban forest. CITIZENS' Urban Greening and Community Forestry is targeting the areas with the lowest tree canopy, and allowing residents to adopt trees for their communities.
If you are interested in learning more about the Urban Greening program and the Neighbors Replanting Neighborhoods, and how to bring this initiative into your community click here.
To learn about our urban forest and our other unique ecosystems, like Virginia Key, browse through our site. CITIZENS is committed to providing environmental education to all of south Florida.
