Citizens
co-hosted over 250 volunteers at Morningside Elementary for Hands
on Miami Day. Citizens provided complete consulting on the native
planting, donated several tree species for the event, and provided
a 20-minute educational session on “right tree, right place”
techniques, proper planting methods, and the benefits of using
native plants in the landscape -- including educational signage
describing the botanical characteristics of each plant. Together,
our group of volunteers planted over 140 plants and trees on the
grounds of Morningside Elementary. The resulting change in landscape
was dramatic.
Funded
by the Miami-Dade County Department of Environmental
Resources Management, Miami-Dade County Water & Sewer, Miami-Dade
County Department of Solid Waste, the South Florida Water Management
District, and the Florida Division of Forestry.
