Fern Comparison
Giant Sword Fern Close-up

Notice how the leaflets of the Native Giant sword do not overlap the rachis.

Tuberous Sword Fern Close-up

On the underside of Exotic Tuberous Sword Fern, notice the leaflets overlap the rachis, which also has dark hairs.

You can identify the Tuberous Sword Fern by turning a frond over and examining the stem and leaflets. If the stem is covered in dark hairs and the leaflets overlap, the fern is the Tuberous Sword Fern. Additionally Tuberous Sword Fern has small round “tubers” growing on its roots. If you find tubers growing on your fern’s roots, remove the fern! Think, “If it has tu-bers, Remove-‘er!”
