Earth
Day started early with Citizens' 2nd Annual Earth Day Celebration
at the City of Miami Virrick Park. Close to 200 children enrolled
in Citizens' Community Science Workshops
at Citrus Grove Elementary, Virrick Park, and Holmes Elementary
attended the event. The day's activities began with featured performances
by Tribe of the Red Moon, Lanny the Earthman, and a Seed Dance
performance by CSW students from Virrick Park. Afterward, the
participants either visited environmental education booths, or
played environmentally-themed games. Each student received a stamp
on their "environmental passport" after visiting a booth
or participating in a game. At the end of the day, students had
to have their passports fully stamped to receive food, encouraging
students to participate in all of the activities offered. Additional
activities included: planting butterfly garden plants and a contest
for the most waste picked up in and around Virrick Park.
