Annual Tree Summit
March 27th, 2013
The 7th annual tree summit was a great opportunity for non-for profits, government agencies, elected officials, and public and private sectors in general to get together in order to ratify our support for sustainable initiatives and to celebrate the continuation in promoting a healthy urban forest within our city.

Volunteering and Learning about our Unique South Florida Ecosystems
Did you know that Miami-Dade County’s urban canopy stands at a dismal 12%, with some areas around the County only hosting 1 to 3% coverage? The national average for urban canopies stands at 33%, with 45% coverage being optimal. CITIZENS, along with its many partners, including volunteers like you, is expanding our urban forest. CITIZENS' Urban Greening and Community Forestry is targeting the areas with the lowest tree canopy, and allowing residents to adopt trees for their communities.
To learn about our urban forest and our unique ecosystems, like Virginia Key, browse through our site. CITIZENS is committed to providing environmental education to all of south Florida.
Must have's for understanding Virginia Key ecosystem and our urban forest:
